Vintage
Vintage is a faux leather designed to emulate pull-up leather. During the upholstery process, as the material is being pulled and stretched, the stressed areas may lighten in color. Slight color variation can be expected between dye lots.
The pull-up effect can also be activated by scratching or scuffing. The surface is not abraded or bruised but pulls-up lighter or white. If desired, the light mark can be removed by heating with a heat gun. The Vintage will revert to its original color.
Unlike our other Nytek faux leathers, the chemistry that gives Vintage its pull-up effect also makes it more susceptible to staining by oils. Care should be taken in the selection of Vintage for areas where it will be exposed to oils from food or skin lotions.
REVERSING THE “PULL-UP” EFFECT
The Vintage is designed to stretch with a “pull-up” effect. This can be reversed using a heat gun.
- Try on a piece of scrap or a corner to test out the technique.
- A hair dryer does not heat the fabric enough. Majilite recommends using a heat gun that reaches at least 300F
- Turn on the heat gun and use it about 6 inches from the surface of the Vintage.
- Move the gun back and forth over the area to be heated.
- Do not remain in one spot or the Vintage may be damaged.
- The light areas of the Vintage will darken in about 10 – 30 seconds and the light marks and distressed effect will diminish.
- Adjust the heat of the gun if possible, or the distance from the Vintage to achieve optimum conditions.
- Allow the Vintage to cool. Some distressed effect can be regained by stretching the Vintage after cooling.
USE CAUTION WHEN OPERATING A HEAT GUN! A heat gun gets hot enough to peel paint. It will burn skin and pose a fire risk if operated incorrectly. Often, the barrel will remain too hot to touch for several minutes after the after the heat gun is turned off. Please follow all instructions and safety precautions recommended by a heat gun’s manufacturer.
